PRC-2: Ep.4 & Runway Pics

In last week's episode 4, Re-Fashioning the Houses, the Designers had once again been paired up. Working in teams of three, they had to create a collection inspired by Iconic Fashion's house - YSL, Versace & Valentino, using old vintage clothes fabrics for their garments.

Talk about a real and exciting challenge!

Team Versace, 8/10: Order on runway - Sunny/Genevieve/Adejoke

This was the strongest team by far. The pieces were cohesive, sexy and strong, Adejoke was probably the weakest. Sunny was my favourite but Genevieve did impress me with her sexy-flirty puffy dress.

Team Valentino, 6/10: Order on Runway - Jeff/Jessica/Jason

Right choice of colour with Red, but the pieces weren’t stunning. Except for Jeff’s long classic sexy and old glamour black&red dress.
The other two were just blah. I didn’t understand the lace train at the back of Jason’s dress, which wasn’t as bad as Jessica’s poor execution of chic.

Team YSL, 4/10: Order on Runway - Brandon/Baylor/Kim

Let’s start with Brandon who didn’t know who YSL was, what a shocker! His outfit could have been saved had it not been for the two-toned pants!!! Kim's was more "Comme des Garcons" than YSL,
Baylor's wasn't bad, I liked the back of his shirt.
Overall, the usual Black & White chic theme was turned into a casual tasteless palette that didn't fit YSL stature.

In the end the Winning Designer was once again Sunny (Versace) and the Eliminated Designer was Brandon (YSL).
This was unfortunately another NO-Brainer in my opinion, to the exception of Genevieve and Jeff who pulled it off this time.

We need real competition, So step it Up guys!!!

Time to hear it from the Men.

PRC-2: Ep. 3 Runway Pics

This was by far the most exciting challenge/runway of the season. The fact that Designers were paired up in teams of two made it even more competitive.

The strongest look was from Duo Baylor-Sunny, with a very cohesive, feminine and chic concept.
The weakest Duo in my opinion was definitely Jason-Christie, Jason could have saved the say with his dramatic night gown, but Christie's day wear - High waist short was just not flattering and so poorly executed...*sigh*

In the end, Christie Clayton was eliminated! Check out her exit interview under the
PRC-2: Who did not measure up! section

See all the Designs.

Genevieve & Kim - Not extravagant but certainly cohesive.
They've used the same type of fabrics and complemented their
choice of colours. A great team approach.
I like Kim's full cherry red skirt.

Jeff - Jessica, were so opposite but in the end it wasn't disastrous.
Jeff's Dramatic evening wear could have been a hit had
he managed his time more efficiently -
Jessica's Glamour daywear was cute, I like the ruffles
and little bow around the neck and the shades on the runway.
Simply tres tres chic.

Jason & Christie couldn't work passed their issues,
the resulst was catastrophic, Jason did better but he
didn't win me over with this long gown, at least he earned
a place in the next level.

Christie, obviously knew that her high waist short and
top "just didn't measure up" in comparison to all the other
designs on the runway, hers looked out of place...
I won't same more

Winning Team - Sunny & Baylor!!!
Both their designs clearly illustrated what the challenge
was about: A Glamourous Day wear and a Dramatic almost
Couture Evening Wear...they really worked as a team.

Sunny's amazing dress -
I almost cried at the sight of this
amazingness of intricacy and details.
He Deserved to win this challenge and
I am glad he DID!!!

Baylor showed some creativity with this
rather simple outfit, adorned with this pink tulle
On the top part, feminine and unique

Brandon - Adejoke, the gowns were definitely
cohesive, in the green tones, the shape different but
in the same spirit, great execution on both, just missing
a bit of a WOW Factor.

Brandon, pretty elegant, I could see this one
on a red carpet at some hollywood event.

Adejoke, She gave enough glamour to her Daywear
She could have used more accesories and more
sensualitym, but good look overall.

Wise Women's words

Time to stop, think and reassess the week...but, no need to draft another to do list or scratch your old plan, just feel it, commit and let the rest take care of itself.

The words of wisdom of three exceptional women inspire me today...

PRC-2: Ep.3 - Colour me right!

Yesterday's episode was the most exciting of the season yet – Our guest-judge for the occasion was Montreal sensation and most prominent Designer of his generation, Andy Thê-Anh, who has been offering a sexy and modern take on affordable ready-to-wear fashion. I saw his work first-hand at the last Spring L’Oreal Fashion Week and wept tears of joy, he’s that good!!!

For this challenge, Designers were paired up in teams of two, to create two looks complementary looks: one Chic for Day and one Dramatic for evening, both inspired by the L'Oreal Paris, Spring 09 Colour Story theme, with one Designer assigned to Day or Evening. The winning duo will have their designs featured in a L’Oreal Beauty spread at Shoppers Drugmart – which better come to one of the Ottawa locations!

The five teams were as follow; Sunny & BaylorBrandon & AdejokeChristie & Jason - Jessica & Jeff and finally Kim & Genevieve. Some worked better together than others, for instance Sunny & Baylor took a very cohesive approach, using the same fabrics and complementary colors while Jessica & Jeff experienced some minor personally clash which could be found in their very opposite choice of colours.

Kim & Genevieve managed the pressure pretty well and worked their differences to agree on a common them, while Brandon & Adejoke surprisingly got along, considering how different they can be. The greatest drama-team of all was definitely Christie & Jason, with Christie loosing her confidence and focus all at once, her nerves got the best of her and Jason was just not having it, I can’t blame him, he must have secretly been relieved to have won the immunity at the last challenge.

Because of his exceptional construction skills and undeniable talent, I couldn’t wait to see Sunny’s evening look. I was also looking forward to Brandon’s redemption following his Prom Dress gone bad episode. And as far as Christie’s concern, I simply contemplated a last minute miracle, hoping that she wouldn’t be such a basket case after all.

I am taking sewing classes right now and I can tell you that a beautiful garment, requires plenty of time, so this competition is by no means easy, it’s nerve-wracking, fast-paced and extreme in every way possible, so you ought to hand it to the Designers.

I was literally anxious to see what the teams would send down the runway. Would it be a flawless, cohesive, dramatic and striking show or instead a predictable, tedious, stale and boring let-down?

Find out who won the challenge and who didn’t measure up – in the next Runway Pics post!

PRC-2: Ep.2 RUNWAY PICS

I must say that once again, I found 80% of the Designs way too safe...I mean, am I too demanding? Am I so hard to please? I think not!

I am considered over the top by some, because I can wear piece like this great Design by Samantha Cole , one of my favourite newly discovered Designer, all the way from London, UK - article coming soon.

But isn't that what Fashion is supposed to represent? Wearable-out-of-the-ordinary, original clothes? I am aware of the difference between Ready to wear and Haute couture, but adding a pinch of Haute Couture in a Ready to wear concoction has never hurt anyone, just ask Marc Jacobs.

But let's get back to Project Runway Canada...
========================================================
The winning look of the episode was:
Jason Meyers for his lovely LBD, so
classy and so chic. Flawless!
<-------

The look that didn't measure up was: Margarita Voultsos for her...well,unfortunately not so flattering piece. Painful to watch it coming down on the runway------->

Check out all the Designs.

Sunny - The shattered glass effect on his dress is amazing! the construction and finish are simply perfect and the overall look is professional. I vote for him in to be in the Final. ----->

Margarita - hmmm, she knew the fabric was difficult to handle but went for it. Geez, nothing worked on this one, maybe the construction details, but the fit was just horrible, and too much skin showing, eesh sorry!
<------------

Kim - I thought she delivered with this one I like the extra ruffles and little bow in front. It wasn't extraordinaire but definitely worth a second look.
<-------------

Jeff - keeps it safe in this charcoal dress wearable if it wasn't for the construction issues. There is always next time. ------>

Jessica - Honestly impressed by her
sophisticated blue dress, the fit was just flawless, well done! She is showing some great versatility.
<----------

Jason - the ultimate LBD, everything is right, sophisticated and looks ready to wear so cute, I can picture Audrey Hepburn in this one, and you know what that means. ------------->

Genevieve - I like the overall look but is it me or the model is suffering from the "pooping fabric" syndrome? Regardless, I like the flirty shape, maybe less fabric next time!
<--------
Brandon - Micro-mini tube top dress with ruffles at the hem. I mean how short can you go? Brandon has the answer apparently - he can do so much better than that and I know it, so show me! -------->

Baylor - goes for Red in this challenge. Maybe he'll bring more heat next time. Well executed but so regular. More oomph Baylor, more oomph!
<--------

Adejoke - presented a colourful rag top paired with a foil-like skirt. I didn't mind the top but why the skirt? Unless this is a sneak peak to what stewardesses will wear many years from now, on a space ship! ----->

Christie - From bad bridesmaid dress to descent number. Nice save! although I could do without the Shredded effect on the right-hip side. Just looks like she's been attacked by an angry cat!
