Montreal Fashion Week: Day 2

Day 2 of MFW is already behind us. Fashion enthusiasts packed the Marche Bonsecours entrance to its full capacity while waiting for their tickets and passes. We noted a reduced presence of The Black Legging Cult compared to day 1, but still a clear dominance of black as the color of choice for most outfits. Another notable trend was the knee-high boots, or tights high boots worn with…well, you guessed it – tight leggings (or jeans occasionally).

After a long wait in line to get in, the day finally started with Coccolily, followed by Dinh Bá, ENVERS, BODYBAG by Jude and ended with Ève Gravel. Will catch up on the Philip Sparks and Harricana by Mariouche & Chlorophylle shows, which I couldn’t attend, while I was interviewing Naana Tennechie Yankey from Coccolily…

Top trends at MFW
For this FW/10 Designers favor Black, Grey and beige for the colors palette, with the occasional touch of colors. Pronounced shoulders are also here to stay – broad, peaked, puffy, embellished, they are bold and authoritarian… – Hair are playing with two extremes, Big a la Sonia Rykiel for a feline touch or slicked back for a minimalist approach.

Best moments of the day:
The BODYBAG by Jude’s homage to Alexander McQueen. Feathers were styled on dresses or worn as headpieces, for a full dramatic effect. My heart almost skipped a beat at the sight of the giant wings. If only Designers could treat us to such theatrical fashion shows more often…Fashion weeks would truly own up to their hype.

Best look of the day:
Dame Clotilde, Buyer for the Sporting Club, whose style and undeniable elegance was the strongest and chicest I had seen all day. Her vintage feather bolero caught my attention – can’t resist feathers. Her dress is by Andy The Ahn (not showing this year), her bag by Yves Saint-Laurent and her heels by French Couturier Gaspard Yurkievich. This is glamour perfected; she gets my vote for the best look of the day.

Best heel of the day:
A hot pair of black booties by Bryan Atwood, worn by Jennifer Campbell, a fierce Capricorn lady. Best part of the shoes: The Elastic detailing.

Quick note:
The current MFW tickets registration process could really use a revamp. The organization should look into exploring innovative ways to make it smoother for everyone in attendance, and by the same occasion, help reduce line ups and shows delays, for a more pleasant experience.

Off to Day 3 now. On the Menu: Micalla – Annie 50 – Katrin Leblond – Dimitri Chris and Barilà.
